The Most Incredible Song

July 7th, 2010

I just heard the most incredible song. I’m the first person in the world to hear it sung, because the song writer just came in and asked me if I’d listen to her sing it. She’d just written it. It’s beautiful, about realizing when you’re wasting time on dreams that will never come true, and looking in a new direction.

She’s sixteen but my daughter is a much better writer than I am. And she has so much more drive to get her words out there than I ever did. I had (have) the dreams, yes, but not the drive. Working on that.

My oldest sent me a link a few weeks ago to a recording of her singing “Unchained Melody” to her husband’s guitar accompaniment. I was astonished then as well. I do NOT mean this as an insult to my girls. They’re both beautiful, awesome singers. But she put it on YouTube and I would never have had the guts. Possibly because I don’t have the voice, who knows. But when I said something to my daughter about it she responded, why do you wonder if we’re related? You’re the one who taught me to follow my passions.

I’m glad they both have learned this lesson.

I need to teach it to myself. Really. Though I think I’m doing better these days.

I’m writing more than 1,000 words a day, as part of the ACFW NovelTrack, a take-off on NaNoWriMo. The participants set their own daily goal. So far, I’ve surpassed it. Never believed before I could do it. But I am, and I feel so much better about myself for having done it.

The Frypod challenge—as a part of putting my art out there—is another facet of following my dreams. So far, only the DT has done anything with the Frypod. So for a challenge I guess it’s a bust. But that doesn’t mean I’ll quit trying. I’ll just have to find a different venue.

I’m not sure what to do about putting my art out there. My freebies seem to be a hit. People seem to like them. But that’s as far as it goes. So do I stop? I’m not sure. I’d like some feedback on this, if you please. What would make you want to enter my challenge?

  1. Gosh, we have so many of the same fears! You just keep on moving forward Therese. You are an inspiration and if I were not part of the design team I would be thoroughly enticed by your giveaway! I thought it was VERY generous!

  2. Therese Travis says:

thanks, Jeannie. This means a lot to me!

    Therese,
    Please don’t give up!!!!
I wanted so badly to play along with this challenge but time constraints on this week and last prevent me from playing. :(
I don’t have the frypod file yet but if you send that to me I will still make the project I had in mind it just won’t be ready to actually qualify for the challenge but hopefully seeing someone other than your DT make something will inspire you to keep putting it out there.
I love your blog and everything you share. Your artwork is wonderful!!!

  4. Therese Travis says:

Therese don’t give up. I for one am not able to participate in anything right now due to alot of family issues and I don’t often get online anymore, but I will again someday. Oh, and do we get a link to your daughter’s utube?

  6. Darla H says:

    :) you’re welcome!

  7. Donna S says:

Oh, Therese, that statement from Heather must make you feel so good. Following your passions is something I hope I have encouraged my girls to do. It is so important. =)

  8. I haven’t been able to do much crafting lately due to being sick, so please don’t take my non-participation personally. plus, I haven’t had the $$ to buy a file yet.
you know I love your images! they are among some of my ab fab faves! and when I can craft I will make something with one of the angels – promise! just have to get past this icky spot first……

you have a beautiful talent. do not let things going on in other people’s lives diminish what YOU have. so often we take personally what really has nothing to do with us.
