Book Log

April 15th, 2009

voracious reader who can’t write a decent review but still has opinions on what she reads….

A friend loaned me Earlene Fowler’s new book, Love Mercy. Wow. Fowler writes great mysteries and this one, while not a “dead body” book like her Benni Harper series, is another great trip through some wonderful characters. I love a book that makes me cry with joy.

Miss Match

I had to start Miss Match, the sequel to Miss Fortune, and once I’d started, I had to finish it. I LOVE THESE BOOKS. I thought Miss Fortune was a wonderful book, and feared that, like so many sequels, Miss Match wouldn’t be as good. It was BETTER. My only problem now is being patient until the third releases.

If you think you might be interested, visit her site ( http://www.saramillsbooks.com/html/about_sara.html ) and click on either title in order to read the first chapter. I can guarantee you won’t want to stop.

Miss Fortune by Sara Mills

I first became aware of Sara Mills when her husband died of a heart attack, age 40. A grass roots campaign to support her through book sales led me to look them up on Amazon, and from there to buying both. The first kept my attention, kept me from writing all morning. The main plot by itself would compel a reader. Allie Fortune and Jack O’Connor race to save a couple of cons from their own schemes. The subplot packed an emotional punch, and the final sentence of the book guarantees that I’ll pick up the sequel tonight. I’m so glad I bought both books at the same time.

Suspicion by Ginny Aiken

I’d recommend this one, too. The female MC, Steph, is tough and smart, and real. The male MC, Hal, has an unusual quirk and has to decide whether Steph is guilty or the victim. Kept me guessing for a while.

Lasso Her Heart by Anna Schmidt–good read, quick. I enjoyed it. I’d recommend it to someone else.
